Trees and Nature Conservation

Trees are vital in the fight against climate change. They absorb carbon dioxide, improve air quality, cool the warming planet, fight flooding, nurture wildlife and make landscapes more resilient.

In 2019, Newark and Sherwood District Council joined other local authorities across the country in declaring a climate emergency. As part of this, the Council are undertaking a major programme of tree planting projects and aim to plant more than 10,000 trees across the district.

Each year you are invited to apply to the NSDC for two free trees to plant in your garden! Applications open each autumn so please check back regularly to find out more about the 2021 scheme details including which tree types will be available for residents this year, or sign up to our newsletter to get your green news straight into your inbox each month!
